Raton, New Mexico, is at your fingertips – whether you’re experiencing it here or seeing it first-hand during a visit. People who have traveled through and lived in small towns all over the country agree: Raton is not “typical,” in any way.
When you visit Raton, one of the first things you’ll notice is the beauty of the surroundings. Majestic mountains to the west, north and east are visible from anywhere in town. To the south, the land opens up wide and real, leading you further into the authentic Southwest. And then you’ve got the skies. There’s probably not another place on earth with the constantly changing cloud formations and atmospheric personality that you’ll find in northeast New Mexico. You have to see it to fully appreciate it.
The pace here is slower, but not slow enough to put you to sleep. Folks here take things easy – they don’t rush, and they don’t long for the craziness of the big city. Because of the simpler pace, you’ll find people are friendly and have time to help you when you need it. If you’re lost, ask anybody, and they’ll point you in the right direction.
